Bâton à chaux
Lime stick

Très belle patine d'usage pour ce "bâton" servant à atteindre la chaux au fond d'un récipient en calebasse ou bambou. Humecté de salive, le bâton enduit de chaux sera alors porté à la bouche. Chaux, noix d'arec (ou bétel) et gousses de moutardier forment ainsi un mélange de mastication servant notamment de coupe faim (salive rouge sang). Dessins tribaux gravés en léger relief et décorations avec des bagues de récupération (en cuir ?). Evocation d'une tête de cacatoès en partie haute. Os. Vendu avec un socle.

Very nice patina used for this "stick" used to reach the lime at the bottom of a container in gourd or bamboo. Moistened with saliva, the stick coated with lime will then be worn to the mouth. Lime, arec nuts (or betel) and mustard pods form a chewing mixture that serves as appetite suppressants (blood red saliva). Tribal drawings engraved in light relief and decorations with rings of recovery (leather?). Evocation of a head of cockatoo in upper part. Bone. Sold with a base.
