Très beau crochet de suspension collecté dans la région Sawos. Les crochets de suspension sont accrochés aux rondins constituant la structure des cases dans ou sous la maison. Les bilums (sacs papous traditionnels), paniers tressés, et autres récipients remplis de nourriture, ainsi que les armes, y sont suspendus. Cela aide à conserver nourriture, objets fragiles ou sacrés de la vermine. Dans les maisons de cérémonie (haus tambaran), ils peuvent être plus élaborés et avoir une fonction rituelle, comme probablement celui-ci. Belle pièce d'art tribal océanien.

Papuan food hook collected in Sawos area. The hooks of suspension are fixed on the logs constituting the structure of the hut in or under the house. The bilums (traditional bags), braided baskets, and other containers filled with food, as well as the weapons, are suspended there. That helps to preserve food, objects fragile or crowned vermin. In the houses of ceremony (haus tambaran), they can be more elaborate and to have a ritual function, like probably this one. Beautiful item of oceanic tribal art.
