Les figures Minja font partie d'un culte de l'igname qui s'organisent autour de 3 cérémonies, chacune d'elle faisant intervenir un objet de culte. Les figures yena sont utilisées pendant la première, les minja pendant la seconde et les nogwi la troisième. A la fin du cycle, les ignames sont partagés et consommés et l'on pense que la récolte suivante sera bonne grace à ces rituels destinés à honorer les ancêtres.
