Petite figure de culte dite "Yena" collectée dans la région du haut Sépik en Papouasie Nouvelle Guinée. Ethnie Kwoma. Les figures Yena sont liées au culte de l'igname. Elles sont disposées au-dessus d'un gros tas de tubercules pendant la première cérémonie ( il y a en 3 en tout ) organisée au moment de la récolte, et qui a pour but de remercier les ancêtres pour ce don sacré et s'assurer d'une bonne récolte l'année suivante. Les figures Yena symbolisent le tubercule et évoquent le bâton à fouir servant lors du repiquage du plan d'igname en terre. Présence ici d'un oiseau sculpté sous la bouche. Bois et pigments naturels. Small cult figure called "Yena" collected in the region of Upper Sepik in Papua New Guinea. Kwoma ethnic group. Yena figures are linked to the cult of yam. They are arranged above a large pile of tubers during the first ceremony (there are 3 in all ) organized at the time of the harvest, and whose purpose is to thank the ancestors for this sacred gift and ensure a good harvest the following year.
