Belle patine d'usage pour ce masque dit "moustique" faisant référence à l'esprit mythique appelé "Parak" ou "Brag". L'esprit Parak est lié aux cérémonies d'initiation ainsi qu'à la chasse. Il est supposé aider le chasseur à débusquer le gibier. La région d'origine de ce type de masque se situe dans les terres Mambe, mais cette forme typique a néanmoins été retrouvée tout au long de la côte nord de la Papuasie Nouvelle Guinée, depuis l'embouchure du sépik jusqu'à l'ouest, dans les régions orientales de l'île Kairiru. Ici un tambour à fente (symbole du lien clanique) sculpté en partie haute et un opossum en partie basse. Bois et pigments naturels. Vendu avec un socle de présentation.

Beautiful patina for this mask called 'mosquito' referring to the mythical spirit called 'Parak' or 'Brag'. The Parak spirit is linked to initiation ceremonies as well as hunting. It is supposed to help the hunter flush out the game. The region of origin of this type of mask is located in the Mambe lands, but this typical shape has nevertheless been found throughout the northern coast of Papua New Guinea, from the mouth of the sepik to the west, in the eastern regions of the island Kairiru. Here a slotted drum (symbol of the clan bond) carved in the upper part and an opossum in the lower part. Wood and natural pigments. Sold with a presentation base.
