PLANCHE GOPE : GOPE BOARD

Planche votive appellée "Gope". Les planches gope sont exposées dans la maison des hommes et sont associées aux cérémonies d'initiation. Ces planches rituelles, exposées à proximité des porte-crânes, servent à éloigner les maladies et faire fuir les mauvais esprits... La chaux blanche accentue les dessins sculptés. Pigments rouges à base de palétuviers. Vendue avec un socle.

Ancestor's board called "Gope". Gope boards are exposed in the haustambaran (men's house) and are associated to the ceremonies of initiation. usually exposed near the skull racks, they serve for avoid the diseases and for frightening the bad spirits... The white lime stress the carved traditionnal drawings. Sold with a base.
