SCULPTURE PAPOUE
PAPUAN CARVING
DESCRIPTIF / DESCRIPTION :
Strange biface papuan sculpture collected in the upper Sepik area and representing a face on foot enclosed between four hooks (beaks of hornbill?). This carving seems to get closer to figures decorating the men's house to celebrate the harvest of the yam, sacred tuber for the Papuan. Single piece in very hard wood.
