YPWOON HEAD

Tête d'un ancien ypwoon monté sur socle. Le Ypwoon est l'un des objets les plus stylisés et symboliques de la région du fleuve Sépik. Il représente un être humain en deux dimensions avec une jambe, des os, son coeur situé au milieu et la tête (pièce présente). Les petits spécimens comme celui-ci sont portés par les hommes dans des sacs bilum comme amulettes. Objet authentique ayant servi.

Head of a small old ypwoon presented on base. The Ypwoon is one of the most stylised and symbolic item of the sepik region. It represents a human being with one leg, bones, its heart in the middle and the head (the piece here). Small ones as that one are carried in men's bilums as amulets. Larger ones are displayed in the ceremonial Haus Tambarans. Wanleg is Pisin English for any figure of this style. Authentic used item.
