YPWOON

Les ypwoon sont des personnages puissants que l'on invoque avant de partir à la chasse ou à la guerre. Le chasseur, par exemple, crachera sa salive rougie au betel sur le ypwoon puis le frottera avec des excréments du gibier qu'il souhaite tuer. Ensuite, l'esprit du Ypwoon va chercher, trouver et enfin guider le chasseur jusqu'à sa proie. La taille de ces objets varient de quelques centimètres à environ deux mètres. On ne les trouve que dans les régions traversées par les rivières Blackwater, korewori et Korosameri. Celui-ci est superbement sculpté. Malgré ses manques, sa patine en fait un bel objet de collection.

Ypwoon is a powerful character called before leaving to the hunting or to the war. The hunter, for example, will spit its saliva reddened in the betel on the ypwoon then will rub him with excrements of the animal which he wishes to kill. Then, the spirit of Ypwoon fetches, find and finally guide the hunter up to its prey.The size of these objects vary some centimeters in approximately two metres. We find them only in regions crossed by rivers Blackwater, korewori and Korosameri. That one is magnificently carved. In spite of his lacks, his patina makes of him a beautiful object of collection.
