SLIT DRUM FRAGMENT

Fragment (tête) d'un ancien grand tambour à fente appelé "garamut". Les tambours à fente servent principalement à rythmer les cérémonies traditionnelles ou "singsings". Fréquement ornés de dessins tribaux gravés, le tambour à fente de la vallée du fleuve Sépik présente très souvent une tête évoquant des ancêtres et animaux ou plantes totémiques. Ici un entrelacs de visages d'ancêtres et de sculptures évoquant des oiseaux. Bois dur. Socle vertical ou horizontal possible (nous contacter).

Slit gong drum's fragment (head). The big drum serves mainly to communicate, but can also be used during the traditional ceremonies or "singsings". Frequently engraved with tribal drawings, the slit drum of the Sepik River Valley has a head evoking ancestors and totemic animals or plants. Here an interlacing of ancestors' faces and carvings evoking birds. Hardwood. Vertical or horizontal base possible (contact us).
