HOUSE POLE

Superbe poteau de case Kwoma. L'intérieur de ces cases est toujours richement décoré d'objets peints (écorces et figures) mais aussi de très imposants poteaux sculptés montrant des visages d'ancêtre et des calaos. Ce poteau faisait partie d'une maison située en haut d'une colline. A sa destruction, le poteau a été poussé dans le ravin du dessous. La photo de ce bas de page montre l'endroit où il était lorsqu'on me l'a montré. Bois, pigments.

Great pole of a Kwoma men's house. The inside of these spirit house are decorated with many colored items (barks, figures) but also huge carved pole showing ancestor faces and hornbills. This pole was part of an old spirithouse situated on the top of a hill. When the house went down, they threw away this pole in the bush. Picture at the bottom shows where it has been shown to me.
