STATUE D'ANCÊTRE
ANCESTOR FIGURE

Ancienne statue représentant un ancêtre masculin. Ce visage sculpté semble évoquer un état de transe avec ses yeux exhorbités et sa langue tirée. Sa fonction s'apparente probablement à celle des masques dits "Savi" qui ont pour mission de maintenir une certaine distance avec "l'autre", ennemi potentiel qu'il faut impressionner en cas d'intention malveillante... Ce visage  grimaçant n'est pas sans rappeler la danse du "Haka" Maori... Personnage présentant des scarifications au niveau du nombril. Pièce unique en très bon état général montée sur plaque métallique. 

Old figure representing a male ancestor. This carved face seems to evoke a state of trance with these exhorbitated eyes and his tongue out. It is also similar to the so-called "Savi" masks which have the function of maintaining a certain distance with the unknown, potential enemy that must be impressed in case of malicious intent... This grimacing face is not unlike the dance of the "Haka" Maori which has the same function. Character with scarifications on the navel. Single piece in very good general state mounted on metal plate.
