Siassi Wooden dish

Très beau plat Siassi ou "coupe à nourriture" en bois dense présentant une belle patine d'usage . Cet objet de prestige a deux fonctions : une fonction usuelle consistant à l'utiliser en tant que plat au cours de rites cérémoniels, mais également une fonction d'objet d'échange entre les tribus des îles Tami et Siassi et les tribus des autres îles ou des côtes de la grande terre. Dessins tribaux gravés évoquant des animaux totémiques (poissons, oiseaux) et rehaussés de chaux. 

 

Beautiful Siassi dish bowl made of hard wood and showing a beautiful used patina. This prestigious object has two functions : its usual function is to be used as a dish during ceremonial rites, but it also serves as an object of exchange between the tribes of the Tami and Siassi islands and the tribes of other islands or the mainland coast. Tribal designs engraved with totemic animals (fish, birds) and enhanced with lime.
